Can RMail tell me if a Registered Email message was opened and read?
The RMail Registered Receipt email automatically records the delivery audit trail (SMTP, ESMTP, DSN, HTTP, MUA and other records) and translates this information for the sender. This information is recorded as one of four statuses in the “Delivery Status” section of the Registered Receipt email for each recipient.
- Delivered and Opened
- Delivered to Mailbox
- Delivered to Mail Server
- Delivery Failure (common reasons below)
- Mailbox full
- Bad address
- Email too large for recipient’s mail system
- Attachment file type not accepted (ex. Zip files)
- Recipient’s mail system is down
While there is no mail or email system able to determine “Opening” 100% of the time without the recipient’s participation, the RMail service will provide senders with the highest level of delivery for any message sent using the services using a variety of methods to establish the delivery status of RMail messages. The “Delivered and Opened” status depends ultimately on if the recipient in fact opened the message, the recipient’s mail system, settings and behavior. Thus, there may be cases where the RMail Receipt says “Delivered to Mailbox” or “Delivered to Mail Server” but were opened.
